Another day in Hanoi

Whew, what a day! We woke up pretty early today (6 am), had a huge breakfast at the hotel, and set off for a full day of exploring Hanoi. The breakfast was so freaking good. They offered a multitude of pastries and bread, various hot dishes, fruits, smoked meats and fish, and several kinds of egg dishes to order. We gobbled it all up since we (especially me) weren’t sure how the meal situation would play out today.
Our first order of business was finding a reputable tour operator for the Halong Bay cruise we plan to take tomorrow (Thursday). We had heard some horror stories about the lesser priced options and didn’t want to be trapped on a cockroach-infested boat for 2 days. Last night during dinner, a nice Australian couple recommended the company they used last week and even though the price was a little steeper than some of the mid-range options, we decided to splurge because of their positive experience. And it is our honeymoon, after all, so why not splurge a little bit!?
We wandered around for the next few hours, just taking it all in, and stopping to take pictures along the way. The motorbikes were out in full force, of course, but it had rained in the morning so the smog and visible pollution was lighter than yesterday.
We made our way to a recommended spa and both had some pretty interesting treatments during the afternoon. Bill had a 90 minute Thai massage and I had a salt body scrub and a 75 minute massage. The experience was a bit surreal. There was an extreme lack of communication between us and the staff and even though they were great, we felt a bit awkward at times. I guess we’re not used to getting “handled.”

The jet lag is catching up with us today and by the evening, the pollution had gotten so bad, our eyes were burning. This place gives a whole new meaning to "rush hour" traffic. So we went back to the hotel around 6 pm and crashed for a few hours. We're definitely ready to get out of the smog and pollution tomorrow.
We won’t have internet access for the next couple of days but expect some amazing pictures on Friday!
